What is Ghost Chili?

According to the Guiness Book of World Records, Ghost Chili is the hottest chili pepper on Earth. It is grown in India where it is called Bhut Jolokia, and it has over a million Scoville units (1,041,427). In the western media, it is popularized as ghost peppers, and in Sri Lanka where it is also grown, people call it the “cobra” chili because of the poison-like effect it gives when ingested. When ghost chilis are brought to the market, they are usually watered down to reduce the heat. Ghost chilis are available in the Western market in dried and ground form.
